Actor Sam Lloyd, known for his role on Scrubs, died on Thursday, April 30, 2020 of complications from lung cancer. He was 56 years old.

Lloyd played lawyer Ted Buckland on Scrubs, appearing throughout the series’ run in 2001-2009. He revived the character a few years later for appearances on Cougar Town, which featured several other Scrubs actors.

Lloyd, the nephew of actor Christopher Lloyd, was born on November 12, 1963 in Vermont. He attended Syracuse University and began acting in the late ’80s with appearances on Night Court, followed by a role in the show City.

In the ’90s, he guest starred on many shows like Matlock, Seinfeld, Coach, Mad About You, The Drew Carey Show, and 3rd Rock from the Sun. On film, Lloyd appeared in Rising Sun, Flubber, and Galaxy Quest.

During the 2000s, the well-versed TV actor guest starred on NYPD Blue, The West Wing, Malcolm in the Middle, Desperate Housewives, and Numb3rs. Lloyd’s most recent roles were in Bones, Shameless, Happy Together, Modern Family, and American Housewife.  

Outside of acting, Lloyd was an active musician. He sang in the a cappella group, The Blanks, which appeared on Scrubs, and in The Worthless Peons. He also played bass guitar in the Butties, a Beatles tribute band.
