Robert Carradine, the actor known for Revenge of the Nerds and Lizzie McGuire, died on Monday, February 23, 2026. He passed following a “valiant struggle against his nearly two-decade battle with Bipolar Disorder,” according to a statement made by his family. He was 71 years old.

Carradine starred in the Revenge of the Nerds franchise about a group of geeks and outcasts who decide to fight back against the bullies who keep them down.  He played Lewis Skolnick, a computer science major that becomes a leader of the nerds. Carradine was also known for his role as Sam McGuire, father of the titular star in Lizzie McGuire, who struggles with raising his teenage daughter.

He was born on March 24, 1954 in Los Angeles, California, to the famous Carradine acting family. Robert was the son of well known horror/Western actor John Carradine, and brother of David (Kung Fu) and Keith (Dexter).

Carradine’s onscreen debut was in an episode of Bonanza, then a year later he starred opposite John Wayne in The Cowboys. He was in Mean Streets, appeared in episodes of The Cowboys TV series, he was in Cannonball!, Coming Home, and he starred in all four Revenge of the Nerds movies.

In the ‘90s, he was in The Tommyknockers miniseries, did an episode of Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, he was in Escape from L.A., and Ghosts of Mars. Carradine starred in both seasons of Lizzie McGuire and the movie based on the show, revived Lewis Skolnick to voice him in Robot Chicken, he was in Django Unchained, played Sam McGuire for the Lizzie McGuire revival in 2020, and his final role was Skate to Hell in 2026. Carradine also did multiple guest spots on TV shows and starred in many TV and direct to video movies.
