In Memoriam: Rob Reiner & Michele Singer Reiner

Director Rob Reiner and his wife, producer Michele Singer Reiner, both died on Sunday, December 14, 2025, at their home in Brentwood, California. A family member found them and contacted the Los Angeles Police Department. It was determined that they both died of sharp force injuries and their son, Nick, was charged with first degree murder. Reiner was 78 and Singer Reiner was 68.

Reiner was a director, actor, producer, and writer, known for directing This is Spinal Tap, The Princess Bride, and When Harry Met Sally. Singer Reiner was a producer, actor, and photographer who worked with her husband on some of his biggest projects. They met while he was filming When Harry Met Sally, and the pair got married in 1989. They have three children together, Jake, Nick, and Romy.

Reiner started his career as an actor, appearing in shows like Batman, The Andy Griffith Show, and The Beverly Hillbillies, then in the 1970s, he starred in the sitcom, All in the Family. Moving behind the camera, he had a string of hits in the ‘80s that showed off his versatility. He directed the music mockumentary, This is Spinal Tap (which he also wrote), the coming of age film, Stand by Me, the fairy tale-inspired The Princess Bride, and When Harry Met Sally, which is considered one of the best rom-coms of all time.

He directed the horror/drama, Misery, and more dramas like A Few Good Men, The American President, and Ghosts of Mississippi. Reiner directed Rumor Has It…, The Bucket List, LBJ, Albert Brooks: Defending My Life, and his last completed work was, Spinal Tap II: The End Continues.

Singer Reiner began working as a photographer on the MysteryDisc video games and for Misery. She starred in the movie Mixed Nuts and produced Reiner’s movies like Shock and Awe and Spinal Tap II: The End Continues. She was nominated for an Emmy for producing the documentary, Albert Brooks: Defending My Life, and she produced the documentary, God & Country.

Outside of film, the Reiners helped to found the American Foundation for Equal Rights.
