
In Memoriam: Paul Becton
Comic artist and colorist Paul Becton passed away on May 19, 2026. His passing was only recently reported. He was 73 years old.
Becton had suffered a fall that he never completely recovered from, and spent the last 18 years living at the Woodcrest Rehabilitation Center in Flushing, New York.
He was born on December 29, 1952. Becton worked as a Marvel staff colorist from 1982 to 1996, and also contributed interior art and covers for the publisher.

His work is seen in multiple issues of Iron Man, D.P.7, Avengers Spotlight, Quasar, The Avengers, The Marvel Saga, and West Coast Avengers. He also provided colors and art in several issues of Solo Avenger, Fantastic Four 2099, Marvel Age, Ravage 2099, Daredevil, Thor, Marvel Fanfare, and Conan the Savage, among others.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Paul Becton. Through his work as a colorist, Paul helped shape the look and feel of Marvel Comics throughout the 80s and early 90s, from the Avengers to Iron Man, Thor, and so many more. As an artist, valued colleague, and friend, he will be missed,” Marvel Comics shared on social media.
Outside of his work at Marvel, Becton contributed to DC’s Scooby-Doo and Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? series. Throughout his career, Becton contributed to over 450 issues in more than 130 titles.
In addition to coloring comics, Becton was a member of the Gotham Radio Players that performs classic radio scripts, and he coached Marvel’s softball team.
