In Memoriam: Michael C. Gross
The man behind one of the most recognizable pieces of art in film history has passed away at the age of 70. Michael C. Gross, best known for his work on the logo for the Ghostbusters franchise, passed from cancer-related complications on November 16, 2015.
Before getting into film-related art, Gross worked as a designer for the ’68 Summer Olympics in Mexico City, and then went on to act as the art director of National Lampoon magazine beginning in 1970. His most famous piece for the publication was the “If You Don’t Buy This Magazine, We’ll Kill This Dog” cover.
In the 1980s, Gross went on to work as a producer or an executive producer on a number of films, including Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II, Beethoven, Kindergarten Cop, and Dave. He also worked on The Real Ghostbusters and Beethoven television shows.
