Actress Kelly Preston died on Sunday, July 12, 2020 after a two-year battle with breast cancer, a family representative has announced. She was 57 years old.
Preston was known for roles in movies like SpaceCamp, Twins, and Jerry Maguire. She was married to fellow actor John Travolta.
Born in Honolulu on October 13, 1962, Preston studied acting at the University of Southern California. Her onscreen career began in 1980 with an episode of Hawaii Five-O, followed by guest spots on Quincy M.E., CHiPs, and For Love and Honor.
She starred in the Stephen King-based Christine, had a major role in Mischief, and played the glam girl Tish in SpaceCamp. Preston played Arnold Schwarzenegger’s love interest in Twins and starred opposite Travolta in The Experts.
In the early ‘90s, Preston appeared on Tales from the Crypt, then had small roles in Waiting to Exhale and From Dusk Till Dawn a few years later. She played Jerry’s high maintenance girlfriend in Jerry Maguire and starred in Addicted to Love with Meg Ryan and Matthew Broderick. Her late ‘90s roles included Holy Man, Jack Frost, and For Love of the Game.
In 2000, Preston starred with Travolta again in the sci-fi flick Battlefield Earth and followed that with roles in What a Girl Wants, The Cat in the Hat, Sky High, Death Sentence, and guest spots on Medium. Her later roles were in Old Dogs, Casino Jack, CSI: Cyber, and Gotti.
Preston and Travolta had three children together, and their son Jett preceded her in death.
