Bollywood and Hollywood actor Irrfan Khan died on Wednesday, April 28, 2020 after a two-year fight with cancer stemming from a neuroendocrine tumor. He was 53 years old.

Known in the U.S. for films like Life of Pi and Jurassic World, Khan was born in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India on January 7, 1967. He studied at the National School of Drama in New Delhi in the mid-1980s and would go on to star in many movies and TV shows in India.

Throughout the late 2000s and 2010s, Khan appeared in multiple U.S. blockbusters. Among his earliest U.S. films was Wes Anderson’s The Darjeeling Limited in 2007. A year later he starred in the Best Picture Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire as the police investigator.

In 2012, he appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man and played the adult Pi Patel in Life of Pi. He played the wealthy Simon Masrani in Jurassic World in 2015 and starred opposite Tom Hanks in in ’16 for Inferno.
