Actress Diane Keaton, known for Annie Hall and The First Wives Club, died on Saturday, October 11, 2025. A cause of death was not given. She was 79 years old.
Keaton played the charming lead character in Annie Hall and won an Academy Award for the role. She played the neurotic pre-divorced housewife in The First Wives Club, played Kay Adams, the girlfriend then wife of Michael Corleone in The Godfather, and the composed mom to Steve Martin’s manic dad in Father of the Bride.

She was born on January 5, 1946, in Los Angeles, California, where she did plays in high school and then studied drama in college. Keaton left school to pursue her acting career in New York City, debuting on Broadway in Hair in 1968. Her next Broadway role was the Woody Allen-directed Play It Again, Sam, earning her a Tony nomination. Ha
Keaton’s film debut was in Lovers and Other Strangers in 1970, then two years later she starred opposite Al Pacino in The Godfather and returned for both sequels. Her work with Allen, in addition to Annie Hall, included the film version of Play It Again, Sam, Sleeper, and Love and Death.

She was in Looking for Mr. Goodbar, was nominated for an Oscar for Reds, she was in Shoot the Moon, The Little Drummer Girl, Baby Boom, Father of the Bride and the sequel, and voiced Daphne in Look Who’s Talking Now.
Keaton worked with Goldie Hawn and Bette Midler in The First Wives Club, had her third Oscar nod for Marvin’s Room, was in The Other Sister, Hanging Up, and Something’s Gotta Give with Jack Nicholson, getting a fourth Oscar nomination.

The Family Stone, Because I Said So, Mad Money, she voiced Jenny in Finding Dory, was in Book Club and its sequel, and her final role was in 2024’s Summer Camp.
