Quantum Leap star Dean Stockwell died on Sunday, November 7, 2021. He was 85 years old.

Stockwell was an Oscar nominated actor also known for Married to the Mob, The Boy with Green Hair, and Blue Velvet.

Robert Dean Stockwell was born on March 5, 1936, in Los Angeles and grew up there and in New York City. Born into an acting and musical family, Stockwell debuted on Broadway when he was just 6 years old.

His onscreen career began in 1945’s The Valley of Decision, Anchors Aweigh, and Bud Abbott and Lou Costello in Hollywood. Other early roles included the antiwar film Boy with Green Hair and he won a special juvenile Golden Globe for Gentleman’s Agreement.

In the ‘50s and ‘60s, Stockwell was in The Secret Garden, Kim, he played a teen killer in Compulsion, and he was in Long Day’s Journey Into Night. From there into the ‘70s, he was in Psych-Out, The Dunwich Horror, and The Last Movie.

Through the ‘80s, Stockwell starred in Paris, Texas, David Lynch’s Dune and Blue Velvet, he played Howard Hughes in Tucker: The Man and His Dream, and he was in Married to the Mob.

From ’89 to ’93 he starred opposite Scott Bakula in the time-traveling series Quantum Leap as the wise Admiral Al Calavicci. While filming the show he was in The Player, then later in the ‘90s he starred in The Rainmaker and Air Force One.

He had a recurring role on JAG as Edward Sheffield then played John Cavil in Battlestar Galactica. Stockwell’s final roles were in Persecuted, NCIS: New Orleans, and Entertainment.
