In Memoriam: Bill Nunn
Do the Right Thing actor Bill Nunn passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2016 in Pittsburgh, PA. His death was announced by director Spike Lee on social media. His wife, Donna, shared that Nunn had cancer. He was 63 years old.
In Lee’s Do the Right Thing, Nunn starred as Radio Raheem, the boombox playing philosopher of the neighborhood who was killed by police officers.
Born in 1952, in Pittsburgh, Nunn was born to William G. Nunn Jr., a well known journalist and NFL scout. During his childhood, Nunn was a ball boy for the Pittsburgh Steelers alongside current team president Art Rooney II.
Nunn made his onscreen debut in 1981’s Sharky’s Machine and a year before Do the Right Thing, he was in School Daze. He was very busy in the ’90s, starring in New Jack City, Regarding Henry, Sister Act, Loaded Weapon 1, Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh, Things to Do in Denver When You’re Dead, Canadian Bacon, Money Train, Extreme Measures, Kiss the Girls, and He Got Game.
In the 2000s, Nunn starred in the series The Job, and was in Lockdown, the Spider-Man trilogy, Runaway Jury, and A Raisin in the Sun. His final role was in the series Sirens in 2014-2015.
