IDW Announces Event Horizon Sequel Series
In 2025, Event Horizon made the jump to comic books, nearly 30 years after the movie’s release. That comic, Event Horizon: Dark Descent, is a prequel series that shows readers what happened to the crew when they went missing on their fateful journey. IDW has announced that a new series is on the way and all four issues of the prequel series have sold out.
In the sci-fi/horror movie, a rescue team investigates what happened to the crew of the Event Horizon, a ship that was built with technology to travel instantly through long distances in space. What they discover is that the crew opened a wormhole to a hellish dimension, and brought something terrible back with them. Released in 1997, the movie was a sleeper at the box office but became a cult hit in the years since.

Event Horizon: Inferno is set 200 years after the events in the movie “while amping up both the shocking terror and gripping action,” per the press release. Christian Ward, the writer behind Event Horizon: Dark Descent, is returning for the sequel series with artist Rob Carey (Aliens: Resistance).
“I’m thrilled to continue the story of Event Horizon. First, we told you the story about what happened before the events of the film and now we’re exploring what happened after the credits rolled,” Ward said. “Get ready for more sci-fi, more excitement and especially more cosmic terror. There are more demons in hell and we’re only just beginning.”
Event Horizon: Inferno #1 will be in stores in April 2026.
All four issues of Event Horizon: Dark Descent will be reprinted soon, and then a collected edition will arrive in the summer of 2026.
