Hisao Tamaki Star Wars Manga Book on Kickstarter
In 1998, artist Hisao Tamaki illustrated the manga adaptation of Star Wars: A New Hope, bringing the Japanese art style to George Lucas’ classic science fiction franchise. The series was popular around the world, winning an Eisner Award, and spawning additional Star Wars manga books.
Collectors can now experience the book in a new way through The Art of Star Wars: A New Hope – The Manga by Hisao Tamaki from Dark Horse Comics and Lucasfilm. The deluxe hardcover is filled with Tamaki’s artboards in the original orientation to be read from right to left. The project is seeking backers on Kickstarter.
“For the first time, fans will be able to experience Tamaki’s stunning unaltered artwork complete with blue pencil marks, pasted captions, and editorial notes that offer a rare window into the creative process, along with a new English translation of the boards’ original lettering,” per the synopsis.
Dark Horse and Lucasfilm will release a retail edition, as well as collector’s and masterpiece editions. Those special editions come with exclusive covers, formats, and signed versions that are only available in the Kickstarter campaign.
The campaign is not live yet; fans can sign up to be notified when it does open at kickstarter.com.
