Heritage Weekly Auction Features 1st Doctor Doom, Early Batman
A Silver Age Marvel key and a Golden Age DC key are among the top lots in Heritage’s Sunday & Monday Comic Books Select Auction. Comics in the auction close on March 6, 2022, followed by everything else on March 7.
Doctor Doom had his first appearance and origin in Fantastic Four #5 GD/VG, making it the second most valuable issue in the run after Fantastic Four #1. Jack Kirby and Joe Sinnott provided the cover and the art for the issue, which includes a full-page ad for Incredible Hulk #1 and a letter from Roy Thomas. It is currently ranked No. 12 on Overstreet’s list of Top 50 Silver Age Comics.
Batman #4 CGC Conserved 4.5 was the first issue to mention Gotham City, it includes the Joker’s fourth appearance, and the introduction of his hideout, the Ha-Hacienda. With a cover and art by Bob Kane and Jerry Robinson, this issue also has an ad for World’s Best Comics #1. The CGC notes state, “Conservation includes: cover and centerfold reinforced.”
