Heritage Sports Collectible Auction Results
Collectible Signature Auction, which was held on Saturday, May 6, 2006 in
Dallas, Texas. The highlight of the auction was a baseball signed by both Joe
DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe, which sold for $191,200.
“The biggest
story of the event was the price of $191,200 realized for the baseball signed by
Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe,” explained Chris Ivy, Director of Sports
Auctions for Heritage. “This represents the highest price ever paid for an
autographed baseball, and a record that dwarfs the previous mark of
$125,000.”
In addition to the DiMaggio/Monroe baseball, a
near-pristine signed Jim Thorpe signed baseball went for $28,680, the highest
price ever paid for a Thorpe autograph. One of the oldest items at this auction
was a 1908 panoramic photograph of the Chicago Cubs and New York Giants game,
which went for nearly $24,000.
