Henry Cavill will be starring in the upcoming Netflix series, The Witcher, as none other than the Witcher himself, Gerald of Rivia. The casting news was confirmed by both Netflix and by Cavill himself, who posted the news via his Instagram account.

Though the video game series developed by CD Projekt Red has been massively popular, the Witcher series will be based on the original novels by Andrzej Sapkowski. As of 2018, the novel series has sold more than 33 million copies worldwide. The Witcher focuses on Geralt, a genetically-enhanced mercenary who hunts various beasts and other supernatural foes in order to protect the land and its people from harm.

The Witcher will run on Netflix for eight episodes. It is currently unknown as to when the series will premiere.
