Harry Potter Collection Joins Guinness Book of World Records
It’s been 17 years since the first Harry Potter book was released. That’s more than enough time to collect two rooms’ worth of wizard-related merchandise and fly a broomstick straight into the Guinness Book of World Records, which is what one Mexican lawyer has just done.
Menahem Asher Silva Vargas, 37, has amassed 3,097 pieces of Harry Potter swag, practically turning two rooms of his home into Hogwarts itself. The old record was significantly smaller with 807 pieces.
Photos show Vargas’ walls lined with banners of the four famous Hogwarts houses (Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin), scarves, robes, sweaters, neckties, movie posters, replica wands, action figures, stuffed owls and dragons, character busts, and much more.
It’s unknown how much Vargas’ collection is worth, as it has not yet been appraised, but a quick search online shows that certain collectibles—prop replicas and rare figures, for example—can fetch more than $50 on their own. With the sheer volume of Vargas’ Harry Potter collection, it’s likely worth several thousand. No word yet on its worth in Galleons.
