Harley Quinn x Elvira #4
Dynamite; $4.99
The job Harley Quinn took to pay Elvira went sideways very quickly and they probably would have been sleeping with the fish if it weren’t for Power Girl’s intervention. After helping them escape the bad guys, Power Girl flew them to a safe location to Elvira’s friend’s castle in Transylvania.
The next morning, the ladies wake up in the castle disoriented after a strange night with the locals. But that was just the beginning of their horror-fueled visit as they interact with more classic monsters at the Count’s house. Back in New York, Sid – Elvira’s boss that fired her, was blown up, and is now just a brain in a super-suit – is hunting for them.
Putting Harley Quinn and Elvira Mistress of the Dark into the same comic makes for a great crossover. Their chemistry is on point, particularly the penchant for naughty jokes and pop culture references, and their situation just keeps getting sillier and sillier. Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti are showing why their run writing Harley Quinn was so great as they put Harley and Elvira into one absurd scenario after another.
Conner also provided some of the art and colors, joined by artist Juan Samu and colorist Walter Pereyra who illustrated the bulk of the book. Their work brings Elvira and Harley’s misadventure to life with layers of humor and fun through their versions of the monsters, loads of easter eggs, action, and the ever-present flirtations between the two leads.
