Hake’s Auction #229 will come to a close next week, on March 11-12, 2020, but there’s still plenty of time to bid on a wide selection of Star Wars related memorabilia. The auction house is known for presenting an impressive array of Star Wars figures in their premier auctions, and this one continues that tradition with rarities of carded and loose figures, as well as other toy memorabilia.

Collectors will have the opportunity to procure one of the most desirable figures when the Ben Kenobi double-telescoping loose figure AFA 70 crosses the auction block. This 3-3/4” figure from Kenner’s 1977 toy line has the double-telescoping lightsaber that features a second extendable section, though it is missing approximately 2mm of the tip.

Another rarity among the loose figures is the Snaggletooth (blue) first shot AFA 60. This 3-3/4” figure is an early version of the character that was issued in the Sears Exclusive Cantina Playset. From the ’78 line, it is in the blue costume with the toe dent and there’s no copyright information on the back of the leg.

A few other prominent loose figures are the Jawa vinyl cape figure AFA 85, the rare variety that was made before the cape was switched to cloth; and the Star Wars: Droids Kez-Iban hand-painted first shot figure AFA 60 from Kenner’s 1985 line that was based on the animated television show.

The auction features multiple 12-back action figures from the first installment of Star Wars toys released in 1978. Among those are the popular Jawa (vinyl cape) 12-back-A AFA 85 and Ben Kenobi 12-back-A AFA 85 gray hair version, both on unpunched cards. Two others from that run are the R2-D2 12-back-A AFA 85 with SKU on figure stand on an unpunched card and the Han Solo 12-back-A AFA 85 small head variety.

Ready to house those early figures is the 12-back display with header card and tray insert. The 13” x 24-1/2” x 11-1/2” bin with cardboard sign advertises the first wave in Kenner’s toy line with the text “Twelve exciting action figures from the smash hit movie Star Wars!” It also shows portraits of the 12 characters as they appear in the movie.

The Star Wars Early Bird Mailer Kit lot contains the original white mailing box and vacuform plastic tray with Luke Skywalker double-telescoping figure, Princess Leia, Chewbacca (with original version translucent green bowcaster), and R2-D2. The box has no mailing label and is possibly an early approval sent from Kenner to General Mills based on other items from the same source as well as the geographic location of the source.

Hake’s will also offer figures from later waves, including the Star Wars Boba Fett 21-back-C AFA 80 and a 21-back-A AFA 70. There’s also an Empire Strikes Back Han Solo (large head) 32-back-B AFA 85 that was a sample and comes with hand cut and sealed blister, red stand, and alternate tape for blaster. Outside of the main line is Palitoy’s 1983 Return of the Jedi Boba Fett tri-logo 70-back-B AFA 60 with English, Spanish, and French text.

These and many more toys, along with comic books, posters, autographs, political pins, and historical memorabilia are currently open for bids at hakes.com until March 11-12, 2020.
