Hake’s Sells Luke Skywalker First Shot for $33K, Sets World Record
Hake’s Auctions closed their final premier auction of the year on November 18-19, 2025, seeing $2.3 million in sales. The Star Wars section comprised one of the auction’s standout sections with prototypes, early examples of figures, and rare carded figures and vehicles, among other sought after examples.

The top Star Wars sale was the Power of the Force Luke Skywalker (Imperial Stormtrooper) first shot/photo sample action figure AFA 75. It totaled $33,748, besting the $20,000 estimate and setting a world record. The first shot Kenner figure (light brown hair variety) with a prototype rubber Stormtrooper helmet was used for photography purposes. This very rare first shot/photo sample combo is the most sought after first shot from the Power of the Force line and is the only AFA-graded example.
The Jawa 12-back-A AFA 85+ vinyl cape variety, one of the most diminutive and valuable figures in Star Wars, sold for $20,768. This rare piece was part of the earliest wave of figures and features the original vinyl cape (later releases came with a cloth cape).

A Luke Skywalker double-telescoping lightsaber 12-back-C AFA 80 hammered for $12,176. This example is the early version of Luke featuring a lightsaber with a second extendable piece that was not included after the first wave of figures. This is a rare carded example and the card is unpunched.
The Early Bird Mail-Away Kit with Luke Skywalker (double-telescoping), Princess Leia, Chewbacca, and R2-D2 AFA 80 went for $11,800. The kit includes the original white mailer box, vacuform plastic tray with sealed baggie set of figures, baggie with plastic pegs for posing the figures, mini-catalog advertising the figures, and mail-away offer for the Early Bird Premium Collector Stand. Kenner used the mail-away promotional offer to get Star Wars action figures to consumers before they hit store shelves because they were unable to get the figures to market in time for the 1977 holiday season.

The Glasslite Star Wars: Droids Vlix AFA 50 reached $11,693. The figure was only released in Brazil due to the cancellation of the animated series, making it the rarest of the commercially released figures.
The Cantina Adventure Set AFA 80 (Sears exclusive) sold for $9,763. The set contains bagged blue Snaggletooth, Greedo, Hammerhead, and Walrus Man, plus the mailer boxes for the figures, sealed bag pegs, cardboard backdrop, and more.

The Millennium Falcon AFA 75 rare factory sealed example of Han’s ship cleared $9,735. The Power of the Force Security Scout body rig proof card AFA 80 (only AFA-graded example) went for $7,242. A Boba Fett 21-back-B AFA 80 brought $7,080, the Star Wars: Droids Boba Fett AFA 75 sold for $6,490, and the Boba Fett 12” Series AFA 75 reached $6,490.
