Hake’s July Premier Auction is packed with almost 1,000 lots of pop culture treasures. The auction is filled with some of the most desirable toys from 1980s toy lines like G.I. Joe, Masters of the Universe, ThunderCats, and Transformers. They are offering rare and high grade action figures, playsets, and vehicles, as well as other highly coveted pieces and prototypes.

The eye-catching toy lots begin with a trip to Eternia and the world of Masters of the Universe. The Eternia Series 5 playset AFA 80 is a giant toy marketed by Mattel as “The biggest Masters of the Universe set ever.” It features a Central Tower, Grayskull Tower, and Viper Tower with battery operated Battle Tram, Sky Cage, and Jet Pack Fighter that run on a monorail system around the whole playset. It has an elevator that reaches multiple levels, as well as accessories and weapons like a weapons rack, ladder, grappling hooks, laser guns, and ramps. This is in the second release box with a full color label featuring art by William George.

Upon its release in 1986, Eternia was sold at an extremely high price for a toy at the time, which resulted in few being sold. Now it is one of the most desirable and hard to find Masters of the Universe toys. This example is one of four graded AFA 80, with only one higher.

Featured lots from this line also include the iconic Savage He-Man (aka Wonder Bread He-Man) promotional figure AFA 80, Man-At-Arms Series 1 8-back with warranty AFA 85, a factory-sealed second release Snake Mountain Series 3 playset AFA 75+, and more.

The ThunderCats lots offer another large scale toy and a selection of prototypes. The LJN/Grand Toys Electronic Cats’ Lair playset AFA 85 has “Flashing laser lights and ‘piercing’ electronic sounds” and a laser light target system similar to laser tag that registers hits from the attacking mutant vehicle. It also has movable paws, a pivoting head, hidden jail, and other features. This is the only graded example per AFA’s Population Report.

“The ‘80s were the decade playsets really peaked in terms of size and creativity,” Hake’s Senior Consignment Manager Mike Bollinger said. “Each major toy line had theirs and it seemed the bigger the better was the law of the land. This is especially evident with the Cats’ Lair, which definitely helped secure its place as a key ThunderCats piece. Factory-sealed Cats’ Lairs are very hard to come by, this rare Canadian issue being an even tougher find.”

A selection of ThunderCats prototypes are also on the move in this auction. Hake’s is selling hardcopy prototypes of popular characters like Cheetara Series 1, Wilykit and Wilykat Series 1, Snarf Series 2, Jackalman Series 1, and Hachiman Series 2.

G.I. Joe is represented by a fleet of vehicles and action figures like the Attack Vehicle (Vamp) and Heavy Artillery Laser (Hal) Series 3 vehicle AFA Qualified 80+ Sears Exclusive. The Dreadnock Air Assault Series 5 vehicle set AFA 80+, Dreadnok Ground Assault Series 5 vehicle set AFA 80, and the Crimson Attack Tank (CAT) Series 4 vehicle AFA Qualified 80+ are also Sears exclusives.

More featured G.I. Joe toys in the auction are the Cobra Battle Armor S.N.A.K.E. Series 2 AFA 85+ (no barcode), Destro Series 2 20-back AFA 85, Cobra Mamba Series 6 vehicle AFA 85, and Cobra Commander (V1.5) mail-away bagged figures with mailer box AFA 85.

The Transformers section delivers plenty of examples of the robots in disguise. The Galvatron Series 3 AFA 85 from Hasbro Canada transforms between a laser cannon and robot. It is in a bilingual window box and is the only example graded by AFA.

Top Transformers lots also include the Canadian Rodimus Prime Series 3 AFA 85 that is the single highest graded example, a Canadian Dinobot Swoop AFA 80+ with the wrong name on Tech Specs, Shockwave Series 2 AFA 75, a Wheeljack Series 1 with rubsign AFA 85, Starscream Series 1 without rubsign AFA 80, and more.
