Hake’s Auction Opens with Vibrant Topps Star Wars Trading Card Art
Each year, Hake’s Auctions hosts three premier auctions containing a wide variety of top tier Americana and pop culture collectibles. They opened Auction #246, their first premier auction of 2026, on Tuesday, March 3, featuring political material, early 20th century baseball items, comic books, action figures, concert posters, and much more.
One of the standout lots that received bidder attention as soon as the auction opened, is the Topps Star Wars: Galaxy Series 2 trading card original art by noted movie poster, comic, and book cover artist Ken Barr. The large 24-3/4” x 35” illustration board with attached mat features acrylic art was used for card #167 in the series that was released in the spring of 1994.

Showcasing Barr’s lush, vivid colors and fine detail, the art has a great portrait of Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Ben Kenobi, C-3PO, and R2-D2. Chewie is seen choking a Stormtrooper and Ben is wielding his lightsaber, while Han, Leia, and Luke are firing blaster pistols.
Darth Vader dominates the top half of the art, looming over the heroes. The Death Star and TIE Fighters appear on one side of Vader, while a group of X-wings fly on the other side. Packed with detail, the bottom of the artwork shows Stormtroopers flanking the heroes, Tusken Raiders riding Banthas, and a Jawa Sandcrawler.
The Topps art is one of many Star Wars lots in Hake’s Auction #246, which is now open for bidding at hakes.com now through Tuesday and Wednesday, March 24-25.
