Geppi’s Entertainment’s Hake’s Americana & Collectibles has had their biggest closing auction day in the auction house’s history. Thursday, September 4, 2008 was an astonishing day for consigners and collectors alike. The bidding began slow on Thursday morning, but steadily continued until the early afternoon. By 2:00 PM several high end, and high priced, items were still free of bids, but were being watched closely. In a matter of minutes phones began ringing off the hook and fax machines were buzzing. The monetary sum of the auction pieces sold jumped into a record breaking bracket.

John Snyder, President of Geppi’s Entertainment, said, “Steve and I have always been advocates for vintage collectibles as an investment, but we were both amazed to note that while the stock market was dropping over 350 points, the Hake’s auction was setting a new record.”

Much hard work and dedication went into planning and executing Hake’s 195th auction, which officially closed Thursday just after 5:00 PM. Hake’s has never before had a final auction day bring in the total monetary amount that it has on Thursday.

With the top item sold for $54,625, Snyder said, “It never ceases to amaze me why more people do not take advantage of this great hobby not only in terms of investment but in terms of sheer fun.”

The top ten items from this auction are highlighted in Scoop’s auction prices section. Click here to take a look!

Below are photos of the Hake’s Americana staff busily taking phone calls that came in rapid succession during the final hours of the auction.
