Last week, Scoop offered a preview of some of the classic Timely’s
and Marvels that Hakes will be listing. This week, we offer a look at the
listings for Batman and Detective Comics. With the new Batman
movie scheduled for release soon, the Caped Crusader has never been in more
demand.
Collectors in the know will be especially thrilled with the copy of Real
Fact Comics
#5 being offered. While not remembered as a Batman title, this
issue stands out.
The cover art uses the same art that graced the cover of Batman #9.
It features a five page story on the creation of Batman and Robin. While the
title was not a regular superhero title, it was one of DC’s earliest and best
attempts to create an interesting book outside of that genre. The book promised
“True Stories from the Drama of Life” and it delivered. Among the 14 stories
inside is a look at cowboy legend Tom Mix. This is truly an interesting Batman
collectible.
Among the most significant Batman issues are several restored books. It all
begins for both Batman and Batman fans with Detective Comics #27. The
second most important book in the Batman cannon may be Batman #1. If you
can’t manage to get a copy of either one of those key issues, Hake’s Americana
is also offering a Batman #2. On each of these lots, the restoration done
is moderate and professional.
Counting the first two restored issues, this amazing auction will be
offering the first six issues of Batman and eight of the first ten in one
auction.

Hake’s Americana & Collectibles auction #183 will be
available online for viewing and bidding beginning March 30, 2005. For more
information visit their website at http://www.hakes.com. To request a
