Marvel Entertainment has released the first trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, giving fans their first look at the third entry in the popular MCU franchise. Rather than the high energy, heavily comedic trailer fans might expect, the trailer delivers several emotional moments.

The Guardians are taking their mission seriously, striking out to help those in need – but it’s the Guardians, so naturally it doesn’t go smoothly. The trailer doesn’t give away much of the story, instead it catches up with the characters. It teases Rocket’s origin story, shows Gamora looking wistfully at a photo, Nebula carrying a possibly unconscious Star-Lord, and Rocket’s love interest, Lylla. Battles, new planets and creatures are teased, and audiences get their first look at Adam Warlock.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 sees the return of director James Gunn, and stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Pom Klementieff, and Sean Gunn. Will Poulter joins the franchise as Adam Warlock.

It will premiere in theaters on May 5, 2023.
