Gotham Picked Up for Series by Fox TV
Those who were watching the Monday, May 5, 2014 premiere of 24: Live Another Day were treated to a rare bit of network TV in addition to the return of Jack Bauer. Fox, which had earlier in the day announced that the new series Gotham had gotten the green light, also debuted the first promotional piece for the show.
It’s very rare for a network to showcase a new program before it’s been debuted for the critics and advertising buyers.
In the new series, Southland’s Ben McKenzie stars as police detective James Gordon and pairs him with a young Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) and at odds with Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor), Riddler (Cory Michael Smith) and Catwoman (Camren Bicondova), among others.
“The drama explores Gordon’s origin story as well as the villains that made Gotham famous. Donal Logue co-stars as Detective Harvey Bullock and Jada Pinkett Smith plays villain Fish Mooney, as the series looks to reveal a new chapter that has yet to be told in the DC Comics lore,” The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog said.
“The pilot for this Warner Bros. Television project was penned by Bruno Heller (The Mentalist) and directed and exec produced by Emmy nominee Danny Cannon (CSI, Nikita). John Stephens also will serve as an exec producer on the series,” THR said.
The series should debut in Fall 2014.
