GEM Construction Update – Visitors!
(GEM) gets closer to its summer 2006 opening. Much of the painting and flooring
work has been finished, display cases have arrived, and displays are being
organized. GEM has also had several visitors in and amongst all the construction
workers.
This week, Doug Allen, President of Mastro Auctions, and Chris
Porter, who heads up Mastro’s comic book unit, toured the facility with Diamond
International Galleries President John K. Snyder, Jr., as Comics Guaranty’s
President and Primary Grader Steve Borock did later.
“I was
extremely impressed by the museum and by the work the people, especially John
Snyder and [Curator]Arnold Blumberg, have put into thinking the workings of the
museum through, from which rooms feature which eras to how the interactive
exhibits will work,” Borock said. “This is something I never thought
I would see in my lifetime and if I was told ten years ago that there would be a
museum devoted to my passion, I would never have believed it. What Steve Geppi
is doing for all of us goes beyond just “wonderful”, it shows his
love of our hobby and a commitment to helping future generations understand and,
hopefully, become part if it. This will surely propel our hobby to a new level.
On a personal note, I am looking forward, once the museum is open to bringing my
daughter for a visit and after that, any time she wants to come
back.”
GEM is set to open this summer. Keep watching Scoop
