Gates McFadden to Pen Star Trek: Crusher Comic
Gates McFadden is returning to Star Trek to write a comic based on her character, Beverly Crusher. The Star Trek: Crusher limited series will be drawn by Megan Levens and colored by Charlie Kirchoff.
McFadden is making her comic writing debut in this title. The book will explore what Beverly Crusher was doing during the 20-year period between the Star Trek Nemesis film and the Star Trek: Picard TV series. The first issue arrives in the summer of 2027.
McFadden plays Starfleet Chief Medical Officer Beverly Crusher in the Star Trek universe. She first portrayed the character in Star Trek: The Next Generation in 1987. Since then, McFadden has appeared in nearly 170 episodes across multiple Star Trek shows, four feature films, and two video games.

“It’s such an honor to return to Starfleet and expand Beverly Crusher’s storyline in a whole new way,” McFadden said. “I’ve spent years bringing the words of other great writers to life in Beverly’s shoes, so it’s inspiring and thrilling to now be the one scripting a new chapter in this fabulous character’s saga. I’m excited for Star Trek fans to read this comic and I’m so grateful for their continued support.”
“IDW’s bold celebration of Star Trek’s 60th anniversary was just the beginning of our stellar plans for the iconic franchise,” IDW CEO Davidi Jonas said. “We are so fortunate to have Gates McFadden beam into the world of comics and reprise her role of Beverly Crusher, but this time as the writer. There is a 20-year gap in the fan-favorite character’s story. Who better to tell it than Beverly Crusher herself?”
The news about McFadden’s comic is the latest announcement in IDW’s plans to celebrate 60 years of Star Trek. Recently, IDW released the Star Trek: 60th Anniversary Special and a new Star Trek #1. Up next is Star Trek: Zero Point #1 starring commander Raffi Musiker, which goes on sale on October 14, 2026.
