Gaming Marathon Raises Over $1.3 M for Charity
The twice-annual gaming marathon, Awesome Games Done Quick, has wrapped after a week of non-stop video gaming. The initial fundraising goal was $500,000, but by the time the final credits rolled, the AGDQ crew had raised $1.3 million for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. AGDQ is still accepting donations for the charity, which can be made on the event’s website.
Though there were many highlights to this speedrunning marathon, IGN has compiled some YouTube clips of just a few of the best moments from this event. Speedrunning is when a video game player attempts to beat the game as quickly as possible, often using glitches and bugs in the game’s code to do so. Some of IGN’s chosen highlights include the Tetris: The Grandmaster showcase, which ended with someone playing the game using invisible bricks, a Ninja Gaiden relay race, featuring two teams of three racing to beat the first three games in the series as quickly as possible, and a Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time run where the person playing was blindfolded.
