G.I. Joe & Masters of the Universe Toys Showcased in Hake’s Auction
The Jeff Jacob Collection Part 2 Auction at Hake’s is packed with incredible action figures, vehicles, and playsets from popular toy lines of the 1980s. This includes soldiers fighting for the US in G.I. Joe and the sword and sorcery heroes of Masters of the Universe.
Leading the charge for G.I. Joe is the Attack Vehicle & Heavy Artillery Laser Series 3 vehicle AFA 75. This Sears exclusive two-pack from Hasbro is very hard to find in factory sealed condition. In fact, it is one of just six examples graded by AFA.
Masters of the Universe lots are built around the Castle Grayskull Series 1 12-back AFA 80. The “Fortress of Mystery and Power for He-Man and His Foes” includes a “Jawbridge” that opens and closes, combat trainer, armory and weapons, throne, working elevator, laser cannon, and more. It is one of the most iconic toys from the Masters of the Universe toy line.
The G.I. Joe Viper Cobra Command Attack Glider Series 2 vehicle AFA 70 is from the first release, it’s the no barcode variety, and is on a peach file card. This is one of only two gliders made for the G.I. Joe toy line.
G.I. Joe figures include the Scarlett (Cobra Commander offer) Series 1 9-back AFA 80 and the Cobra Officer Series 1 11-back AFA 80 – both of which are the straight arm variety. The Department Store Three-Pack #6196 with Flash, Rock ‘N Roll, and Grunt (straight arm variety) AFA 80 is the only graded example. The Sears Catalog Three-Pack #6200 with Cobra Commander, Cobra Officer, and Cobra Enemy AFA 85 is one of two at this grade with none higher.
The G.I. Joe vehicles are led by the Falcon G.I. Joe Attack Glider Series 2 AFA 75 (first release, no barcode variety), Wolverine Armored Missile Series 2 AFA 80 (no barcode), and the Dragonfly (XH-1) Assault Copter Series 2 AFA 75. The G.I. Joe top lots also includes the Headquarters Command Center Series 2 playset AFA 80.
Masters of the Universe lots include several impressive figures like the Hordak Series 4/Evil Horde AFA 85. This is the tan face variety and comes with the Hordak: The Ruthless Leader’s Revenge! mini comic. It is one of five examples graded AFA 85 with none higher.
Masters of the Universe action figures include a Scare Glow Series 6 AFA 80 (green halberd) and an Orko Series 3 12-back AFA 80. Hake’s is also selling the Masters of the Universe/Los Amos Del Universo Teela Series 2 10-back AFA 80 (red boots) and the Evil-Lyn Series 2 10-back AFA 80+ (single highest graded) – both from Mattel Mexico.
