Funko Unveils New Pop! Vinyls at London Toy Fair
During the annual London Toy Fair, held on January 21, 2020, at Olympia London, the “purveyors of pop culture” came in full force. Funko unveiled a slew of new collectible vinyl Pop! figures, ranging from TV, film, sports, and beyond.
Among them was a new range of figures celebrating the 40th anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back. This includes Princess Leia after landing on Bespin, a Han and Leia two pack moments before the famous “I love you/I know,” Han frozen in carbonite, Luke training with Yoda on Dagobah and later riding on a Tauntaun across Hoth, and finally an unmasked Darth Vader in his isolated chamber.
The boy who lived also returns as the Wizarding World of Harry Potter continues to expand. Fans will be able to grab figures of Hermione doing the levitation charm, Ron Wesley with his bucket of slugs, Draco Malfoy with a spider-like creature crawling on his face, Neville Longbottom, and Dumbledore holding a baby Harry. A special Harry in his invisible cloak from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer Stone will also be available, along with an exclusive Deathly Hallows Harry. Special 10” versions of Dumbledore with his Pheonix and Voldemort with Nagini were also part of the new wave.
Over in Gotham City, Funko fans can take a stroll through the ages. New offerings include Jack Nicholson’s Joker from Tim Burton’s Batman, Danny Devito’s Penguin and Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman from Batman Returns, Tommy Lee Jones’ Two-Face and Jim Carrey’s Riddler from Batman Forever, and Uma Thurman’s Poison Ivy and Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Mr. Freeze from Batman & Robin. As a bonus, Funko is also issuing a 10” version of Heath Ledger’s Joker from Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight, while Harley Quinn in a nightgown is becoming a Hot Topic exclusive.
The X-Men universe is also expanding with a very small wave of just two figures. Making their Funko Pop debuts are the lovebirds Rogue and Gambit, each with a retailer variant. Rouge is getting a Hot Topic exclusive consisting of the same head mold but with a flying body, while Gambit will be getting a glow in the dark design courtesy of Entertainment Earth.
Stepping out of the 1980s Filmation cartoon series, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe is scoring 10 new Pops. This wave includes new versions of He-Man and Prince Adam, Sorceress, Sy Klone, Mosquitor, Tung Lasher, and He-Man on Battle Cat. Two different versions of Webstor, including a metallic Hot Topic exclusive will also be available in addition to a 10” Skeletor.
Music icons being popified for Funko’s Pop! Rocks lineup includes Willie Nelson, ZZ Top, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Salt N Peppa, James Brown, Papa Nihil of Ghost, Craig Jones of Slipknot, a new version of Motorhead’s Lemmy, and so much more.
Additional Pops include Star Trek: Discovery’s Michael Burnham and Saru; Creepshow’s Creep sporting a copy of Tales of the Crypt and two monsters from his devilish tales; Fantasy Island’s Mr. Roarke and Tattoo; Wallace, Gromit, and Shaun the Sheep; the entire Sinclair family from ABC’s DinosaursThe Great Mouse Detective, and Nickelodeon’s The Legend of Korra and Spongebob Squarepants.
