Marketing genius comes from character affiliation. Great snacks, great clothing, even great vitamins come with the smiling face of a charming incentive. One of the longest lasting, most likeable characters has been a part of millions of parties throughout his 91 years. His name, is Mr. Peanut.

Through a contest in 1916 hosted by the Planters Company with the goal of creating a mascot, Mr. Peanut was developed. He came from the clever mind of thirteen year old Antonio Gentile. Beginning as a possibly-in-class-doodle, our peanut man was merely a nut with arms and crossed legs. Recognizing the style of this early incarnation, the big-wigs at Planters gave the anthropomorphic character a black-tie appearance, minus the black tie.

Claiming his spot in American fame, Mr. Peanut has been bronzed into a statue in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Originally, a Planters store opened on the A.C. boardwalk in 1930. Often Mr. Peanut would hang out and greet visitors while they enjoyed the beach atmosphere. Because he was such a staple to the area, in 2006 the monocle-wearing, cane-leaning peanut of style became a permanent fixture, sitting on a park bench in Kennedy Plaza.
