Flying Colors Comics & Other Cool Stuff is a well known comic shop in Concord, CA, famous in part because it is owned by Free Comic Book Day founder, Joe Field. But the shop’s claim to fame doesn’t stop there.

Since Flying Colors opened in 1988, the store has hosted multiple comic creators and participated in innovating the comic shop experience. The store and Field’s history in comics are told in a Flying Colors mini-documentary, presented by Scotch Parlor.

Clocking in at just under 9 minutes, the mini-documentary reveals how Field’s got into comics, petitioning to have Stockton, CA named as the birthplace of the Fantastic Four, doing advertising and promo work for Wonder Con, and more. Field also talks about the significance of comics and Flying Colors’ place in the community.

The documentary can be viewed below. The producer also wrote a blog, which is available at scotchparlor.com.
