Heritage’s Non-Sports Trading Cards Showcase Auction on August 14, 2025, will be led by an original acrylic painting by Greg and Tim Hildebrandt. The 1994 Fleer Marvel Masterpieces Holofoil #8 Spider-Man trading card art captures the superhero flying above the nighttime New York City skyline as he leaps from one web to the next. The card is from the third installment in the Marvel Masterpieces trading card set which was completely illustrated by the Hildebrandt brothers.

“This kind of artwork completely changed the game for art related to the trading card hobby,” Heritage Associate Director of Popular Culture Jeremy J.J. Allen said. “This piece very well could set the standard for non-sports items related to trading cards.”

This piece is joined by more of the Hildebrandts’ original art from the ’94 Fleer Marvel Masterpieces set. The #137 Wolverine card art shows Logan running through the snow, claws out and ready for battle and the #49 Hawkeye card art features Clint Barton about to fire an arrow as a bright moon shines behind him.

Outside of superheroes, Heritage has a 1985 Topps Garbage Pail Kids Series 2 #64a Hot Scott / #64b Luke Warm original trading card art by John Pound with Topps Vault COA. The rare art of a devilish baby surrounded by flames showcases the artist’s detailed, cartoonish, and grotesque style.

They also have an ’85 Topps Garbage Pail Kids Stickers Series 1 BBCE sealed wax box with 48 packs. This debut series parodied Cabbage Patch Kids with satirical and even grossout images of babies that amused kids and horrified parents.

Also up for bid is the 1993 Skybox Simpsons Matt Groening DeBart sketch card PSA 10, Auto 10. It comes from the set that included an early example of sketch card inserts with the most important card being the “Art DeBart” redemption card that only appeared in one in every 9,000 packs. Collectors who redeemed the card received one of only 400 hand drawn sketches by The Simpsons creator Matt Groening. The card at Heritage features Bart Simpson waving.
