Erik Larsen’s Savage Dragon is being collected in a massive format, starting with Savage Dragon Compendium Vol. 1. The book includes The Dragon #1-5 (the expanded version of the original three-issue miniseries) and Savage Dragon #1-44. It will be released during the holiday season.

Larsen created Savage Dragon when he was a kid, then introduced him in his self-published Graphic Fantasy #1 (June 1982). When Larsen co-founded Image Comics, he published a three-issue miniseries starring the fin-headed, green-skinned humanoid character in 1992. The ongoing series began in June 1993, and has run continuously since then with the most recent issue 280 in July 2026.

This is the first time that Larsen’s series has been collected in the large compendium format. Dragon goes from being a cop to hell and back in these pages. He protects Chicago from Overlord and the Vicious Circle, he fights a gang war, and protects the entire planet.

It contains the birth of Dragon’s son, Darklord’s death and rebirth, and Dragon becoming the head of Special Operations Strikeforce. Spawn, Hellboy, WildC.A.T.s, the Maxx, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and God make guest appearances in the compendium.

Larsen has been the writer and artist on the comic’s entire run, making it the longest running comic by a single creator. New issues are on the way, with the book closing in on a milestone issue 300. Image is also publishing trade paperbacks and hardcover editions, in addition to the compendium.

The Savage Dragon Compendium Vol. 1 is in paperback format and will be in comic shops on November 18. It features a main cover and a direct market exclusive variant cover that will only be sold in comic book stores.
