
First Captain America & Spider-Man Among Comic Keys in Hake’s Auction
Hake’s premier Auction #246 is now open for bidding, offering 1,424 lots of coveted and rare collectibles. A mixture of pop culture and Americana memorabilia is crossing the auction block,
including a comic section that boasts first appearances and important moments, many in affordable grades.
Marvel keys are leading the charge, including Captain America Comics #1 CGC Qualified 4.0 with the origin and first appearance of Captain America, Bucky, and their nemesis, the Red Skull. The Golden Age great also has a memorable World War II cover of Cap punching Hitler, rendered by Jack Kirby.

Spider-Man is well represented, starting with his debut in Amazing Fantasy #15 CGC 3.5. Additionally, the book has the first appearances of Peter Parker’s Aunt May and Uncle Ben, and it’s Spidey’s first cover appearance, which was created by Jack Kirby. Amazing Spider-Man #1 CGC 4.5 has his second appearance and his origin is retold, it has the debuts of J. Jonah Jameson and the Chameleon, and has the first Fantastic Four crossover.
Doctor Strange’s first appearance is presented in Strange Tales #110 CGC 7.5. The book also features the debuts of the Ancient One, Nightmare, and Wong, plus the first Paste-Pot Pete and Wizard team-up.

Two major Marvel team books are offered in the auction. Avengers #1 CGC 6.5 presents the origin and debut of the Avengers (Iron Man, Thor, Incredible Hulk, Wasp, and Ant-Man), plus appearances by the Fantastic Four, Loki, and the Teen Brigade. Giant-Size X-Men #1 CGC 9.0 features the debut of the new X-Men, including Storm, Nightcrawler, Colossus, and Thunderbird, along with Wolverine’s second full appearance.
More Spider-Man keys in the auction include Amazing Spider-Man #14 CGC 5.5 with Green Goblin’s first appearance, the first meeting between Spider-Man and the Hulk, and an appearance by the Enforcers. Amazing Spider-Man #129 CGC 8.5 offers the first appearance of the Punisher and the Jackal.

A pair of Buck Rogers keys are offered, starting with Amazing Stories #29 CGC 5.0 that contains the debut of Buck Rogers and a cover and art by Frank R. Paul. Famous Funnies #212 CGC 6.5 has a Buck Rogers appearance and Frank Frazetta cover.
