First Black Panther, Defenders Art in Heritage Weekly
Black Panther’s debut, a Defenders page by Sal Buscema and Bob McLeod, and a sealed copy of Tetris for NES are among the top lots in Heritage’s weekly auctions. The Comic Books Select Auction closes on Sunday and Monday, September 18-19, 2022, the Video Games Mini-Boss Auction ends on Tuesday, September 20, and the Comic Art & Animation Auction closes on Wednesday, September 21.
The comic auction begins with the first appearance of Black Panther in Fantastic Four #52 CGC 6.5. Also containing appearances by the Inhumans and Wyatt Wingfoot, this issue has a cover and art by Jack Kirby and Joe Sinnott.
Another eye-catching comic entry is Mister Mystery #12 CGC 3.0 with a Bernard Baily cover of a hot poker heading toward a terrified man’s eye. In addition to the memorable cover, this issue has interior art by Hy Fleishman.
The original art auction is led by Marc Silvestri and Dan Green’s Uncanny X-Men #254 story page 5. On the page, Sefton transforms and helps the Brigadier Alysande Stuart and Banshee after they were attacked.
Sal Buscema and Bob McLeod’s The Defenders #24 story page 13 original art is also up for grabs. On the page, most of the Defenders were captured by the Sons of the Serpent, leading to the Son of Satan, Power Man, and Daredevil being recruited to help.
The video game auction is led by Tetris WATA 9.2 A sealed (oval SOQ R, 4 line warranty, later production) NES game. The sixth best seller for the NES system, Tetris was produced by Gunpei Yokoi with music by Hirokazu Tanaka.
Another collectible from that family of games is also offered with Tetris Attack WATA 9.2 box (no game inside). The “For Display Box” was used in retail stores to represent the title on store shelves.
