Final Jeopardy Answer is: The King!
When it comes to music legends who rocked out on the silver screen as much as they did on stage, The Beatles might come to mind. While that’s certainly true, with films like A Hard Day’s Night continuing to celebrate success in the theaters even today, it was The King himself who truly dominated.
Monday, September 22’s Final Jeopardy asked the contestants to identify the following: “11 movie soundtrack albums by this performer hit the Billboard Top No. 10, with four hitting No. 1.” Elvis Presley’s name should have been immediate, though surprisingly only one of the three were able to correctly get it right.
Elvis starred in 31 feature films as an actor, starting with Love Me Tender and ending with Change of Habit, though he also had two concert documentaries focused on him after that. Much of his bestselling and best known music came from his films. The soundtrack for G.I. Blues was No. 1 on the Billboard Top 100 for 10 weeks and stayed on the chart for 111 weeks. Blue Hawaii’s soundtrack was at No. 1 for 20 weeks and remained on the chart for 79 weeks.
In their next auction Hake’s Americana and Collectibles has a selection of Elvis Presley movie posters. Included in their listings is a Flaming Star linen-mounted Japanese B2 poster, measuring 20” by 29”, for the original 1960 release. Another example is a linen-mounted Argentinian poster for Viva Las Vegas. Measuring 29” by 43” it differs from the American version, featuring more stylized art images of the stars, Elvis and Ann-Margret. A lot of two 27” by 41” one-sheet posters for That’s the Way It Is and Elvis on Tour, both for the documentary/concert films original releases is included. Hake’s will also be auctioning an Elvis autographed “For LP Fans Only” framed LP Display in their November auction.
