Does it bother anyone else that there is a franchise called Final Destination? Nothing against the movie, but doesn’t the existence of more than one of them somehow make one (or more) of them somewhat less final?

Well, semantics didn’t seem to bother moviegoers too much over the long Labor Day weekend as The Final Destination held onto the top spot in its second week in release with a tally of $15,295,069, bringing its total to date to over $50 million, according to BoxOfficeMojo.com.

It barely squeaked out the win over Inglorious Basterds with $14,950,489 in its third week in release and the new Sandra Bullock comedy, All About Steve, with $14,058,106.

The week’s other new release, Gamer, earned more than $11 million, and District 9 rounded out the top five with another $9.1 million toward its worldwide total of $117,725,420 to date.
