Fandom Responds to Overstreet’s Comic Price Review

Overstreet’s Comic Price Review. And since then, Publisher Bob Overstreet
and Managing Editor Tom Gordon have been responding to queries about the
publication.
“We’re extremely pleased with the feedback we’ve received so
far,” said Overstreet. “It seems like this is definitely something dealers and
collectors have been looking forward to for some time.”
“Every single
person I’ve talked with has had a positive reaction,” Gordon said. “The
Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide is the only guide of its type with a
strong, diverse advisor base representing many different sections of the comics
business. Since 1970, when Bob published his first price guide, the Guide
has actively embraced input from all spheres of our hobby and industry,” Gordon
said. “We’re approaching the current market with a heightened sensitivity, and
we’re actively listening to as many people as possible. It would be difficult to
overstate our commitment to hearing from as many contributors as we can.”
Gordon also said many of the Overstreet Advisors signed up for
subscriptions the first time he talked with them.
“The level of
enthusiasm is almost daunting,” he said, “and it’s really motivational. The
input has been great, and now we’re looking for even more.”
“This is
something that the market has needed for years,” said Vincent Zurzolo Jr. of
Metropolis Collectibles. “It is nice to see that the fine people at Gemstone
Publishing are making this happen. This will be an invaluable tool for
investors, collectors, and dealers alike. Other businesses have monthly sales
publications. Comics are growing up and we need this tool.”
“Due to the
increased market volatility in recent times, The Overstreet Comic Book Price
Guide had somewhat disconnected with fandom. This newsletter, with its
timely approach to information, is precisely what is needed to accurately
evaluate the marketplace,” said Robert Rogovin of Four Color
Comics.
“There’s a desperate need for timely information on high-grade
comics,” said dealer Mark Wilson, “and this newsletter is a project that we’ve
needed to see someone undertake. I’ve been saying that this was needed for
years. I’m glad to see The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide getting
behind it.”
Noted dealer and collector Bill Hughes said, “Updated pricing
has been lacking in our hobby since investors began seriously investing in
comics.” “And that’s exactly what we’re going to address,” Gordon added.
Hughes’s comments were echoed by collector and widely-published comics
historian Harry Matetsky, who called Overstreet’s Comic Price Review,
“…an overdue source that has been direly needed in the hobby.”
Steve
Borock, CGC’s Primary Grader, indicated that he was enthusiastic about the
prospect of the new Overstreet newsletter. He said the need for more
documentation on the sale of high-end comics, particularly certified comics, was
clear.
“Overstreet’s Comic Price Review could not have come on the
scene at a more opportune time,” said collector Carl De La Cruz, who recently
joined the ranks of the Overstreet Advisors. “In a time when online prices for
comic sales are all over the place, Overstreet’s Comic Price Review is
all about giving buyers the confidence they need that they are spending within a
reasonable range for the comics they want. A product like this will also greatly
help sellers in pricing their high grade comics at levels where they can make
the best profits and also satisfy the buyers’ demand for a good
deal.”
