Faiza Hussain was working as a doctor when an unexpected encounter turned her into a superhero who can manipulate matter on an atomic level and heal wounds. She also became the wielder of the famous sword, Excalibur, and became an MI13 agent. Faiza was introduced by Paul Cornell and Leonard Kirk in Captain Britain and MI13 #1 (May 2008).

She was trying to save injured people during a Skrull Invasion in London when her base was attacked by a Skrull war machine. The Black Knight killed the pilot and crashed the vehicle, then he took Faiza to look for anyone who might’ve been wounded in the melee. While they were searching for survivors, a device on the war machine activated and hit Faiza.

Knocked unconscious by the blast, Faiza had a vision of King Arthur’s sword, Excalibur. When she regained consciousness, she panicked and used her powers for the first time, turning the Black Knight into a living cross-section of skin, muscle, and bone. It didn’t take long for the well trained doctor to gain control of her abilities and return the Black Knight to his natural state.

Soon, they were attacked by more Skrull troops, and Faiza discovered the new power to immobilize anyone she targeted. Captain Britain used Excalibur to defeat the Skrulls, then when he put it into a nearby stone, Faiza removed it to become the new master of Excalibur. She joined MI13, using the codename Excalibur, taking on supernatural threats like Plokta, and she joined the Black Knight on a mission to get the original Ebony Blade from Wakanda. When Dracula attacked her family, hurting her mother and kidnapping her father, Excalibur confronted Dracula and cut him down with the famous sword.

Faiza was part of the United Kingdom’s delegation of heroes that visited Washington, DC when they ushered in a new Heroic Age and she was invited by Queen Elizabeth II to knight people at Buckingham Palace. After Gambit was shot during a battle, Excalibur used her power to heal him, and she also saved Wolverine when he lost his healing ability and was poisoned. Working with the Champions of Europe, she helped to stop a Hydra invasion in Paris. In another adventure, Faiza joined Doctor Strange and Valkyrie’s team of medical superheroes to save Death.
