Hellish power has its hooks buried deep in the Event Horizon, and everyone on board is facing their nightmares. Well, almost everyone. 

The Event Horizon spaceship disappeared in 2040 when its gravity drive engine punched a hole in space and sent the ship to Hell. A rescue mission was sent when the vessel returned, but all the crew found was horrors and their own deaths. Now, 200 years later, a rich psychopath named Daniel Durante has sent another expedition to the ship. What the new crew didn't know is that Daniel – and the demon attached to him – wanted to wake up the ship. And he was successful. 

The new exploration crew found Lieutenant Starck, the last member of the original rescue team who has been trapped in a nightmarish loop for two centuries. The ship has been summarily picking off the new crew, and Starck is trying to save who she can. That includes Daniel's first wife, Skylar, a woman he tormented for years. Daniel is on the ship with his new wife/android, Annabelle, who connected with the evil entity. He soon learns that even an evil man like himself is not immune to the ship's wrath.    

This is the final issue of Event Horizon: Inferno, and writer Christian Ward brings it to a wild conclusion. The four prominent characters face their demons, literally, as they race to get off of the ship. Starck has taken on the role of hero and faces monsters of the past, while Skylar and Annabelle are given the opportunity for retribution. Daniel has spent his entire life taking what he wanted and doesn't even consider that the doomed ship might have different plans. 

Event Horizon: Inferno isn't just a shock and gore fest. It brings back Starck, a character from the movie who is still sane, somehow, and tries to protect others from suffering the same fate. The demon attached to the ship finally has a willing participant in Daniel. He is a terrible person who is willing to do anything to connect with the ship. His ambition was foreboding in each issue, leaving the reader to wonder what awful revelation would come next. 

Artist Rob Carey and colorist Xenon Honchar provided the atmospheric tension by making the ship seem alive, down to connective tissue and teeth. It's definitely a mature read with truly creepy moments, but the artists don't overdo it on the gore.
