Event Horizon: Inferno #4
IDW; $4.99
Daniel Durante is a very rich, greedy man who has sent a space exploration team to the ruins of the Event Horizon. It's been 200 years since the ship traveled to Hell and came back with a nefarious entity attached to it to claim not one but two entire crews. Even though it has been dormant for two centuries, the vessel awakens when a new crew arrives – which is exactly what Daniel wanted.
The last two issues focused on the nightmarish chaos that the new team is experiencing. It also revealed that Lieutenant Starck, a member of the original rescue team, has survived somehow and has been tormented on the ship ever since. Now, Daniel and Annabelle – his wife/state of the art android/protector – are arriving at the site of the Event Horizon to open a new gateway.
Issue 4 by Christian Ward brings together the supernatural entity and highly advanced technology. Daniel is so arrogant that he doesn't seem to consider what could happen when Annabelle connects with the ship, and it makes for a suspenseful issue. Ward reveals details about Annabelle and explores the idea of emotion in an artificial being.
Rob Carey and Xenon Honchar continue to kill it on art and coloring, respectively. They create the cold, dark, isolating ambiance of faraway space, and then take readers inside a surreal, horrific nightmare. There are cinematic splash pages, the entity looks maniacal, and Daniel is every inch the psychotic fanatic that combines to create a scary horror comic.
