Eighth Annual Toy of the Year Awards
The Toy of the Year Awards kicked off this year’s Toy Fair Week on Saturday, February 16, 2008. Celebrating the best in toys, they were honored at Pier 60/Chelsea Piers in New York. Hundreds of toy industry retailers and leaders attended the event, beginning the 105th Toy Fair which had over 35,000 registered attendees.
The TOTY Awards celebrate the success, creativity, and fun spirit of the toy industry by honoring toys developed by the international toy industry for North American consumers. The Toy Industry Association has vocalized their commitment to honoring companies and individuals who utilize imagination and ingenuity in the production of toys. And the winners are:
- Toy of the Year was given to Spin Master, Ltd’s Air Hogs Havoc Heli Laser Battle
- Most Innovative Toy of the Year went to Fisher-Price for their Smart Cycle Physical Learning
- Infant/Preschool Toy of the Year was given to Spin Master Ltd. For the Moon Sand Adventure Island
- Electronic Entertainment Toy of the Year went to Tiger Electronics for the Power Tour Electric Guitar
- Educational Toy of the Year was given to Fisher-Price’s Smart Cycle Physical Learning
- Activity Toy of the Year went to LEGO Systems, Inc. for their LEGO City
- Game of the Year went to Techno Source’s Rubik’s Revolution
- Specialty Toy of the Year was given to Elenco for their Snap Circuits
- Outdoor Toy of the Year went to RipStik USA for the RipStik Caster Board
- Girl Toy of the Year was awarded to Hasbro, Inc. for their Littlest Pet Shop: Display & Play Round & Round Pet Town Playset and Manhattan Toy’s Troop Groovy Girls
- Boy Toy of the Year was given to Hasbro, Inc. for their Transformers Movie Deluxe Figures
- Property of the Year was awarded to Disney Consumer Products for their licensed property Hannah Montana
