Dynamite Entertainment and Coffin Comics have announced a co-publishing agreement that will bring the cast of characters and world of the original Chaos! Comics line together. They will appear in limited time reprint collections and merchandise that will be available through crowdfunding campaigns and the direct market. The agreement was made through Dynamite’s CEO and Publisher Nick Barrucci and Coffin Comics’ founder and Publisher Brian Pulido.

The publishing initiative starts with an Evil Ernie Kickstarter campaign featuring an estimated three-volume set. It will be presented in multiple formats containing more than 1,500 pages of content and each edition has a different cover. The set includes Smiley, the Psychotic Button’s specials and solo stories, plus appearances by Lady Death, Purgatori, and Chastity.

More Kickstarter campaigns will follow with focuses on Lady Death, Purgatori, Chastity, and the Coffin universe. Other planned projects will include limited edition issue reprints with enhancements, like metal or glow in the dark effects, and new art. Posters, prints, t-shirts, patches, and challenge coins are planned parts of the initiative, and a trading card set may be included as well.

Chaos! Comics started in 1991 when Pulido introduced Evil Ernie with the late Steven Hughes. The line expanded a few years later with a separate publisher and new titles like Lady Death, Purgatori, Chastity, Jade, Bad Kitty, Lady Demon, and others. In 2010 Dynamite acquired the Chaos! titles (aside from Lady Death) and has showcased them in several comics and crossovers with Vampirella, Red Sonja, and others. Pulido has continued to tell Lady Death stories through Coffin Comics with new characters like La Muerta, Lady Satanus, and Hellwitch.

“Brian [Pulido] and I go back over 30 years, as two hardworking and strong-willed young guns in the industry back in the 1990s,” Barrucci said. “His energy is unmatched in this medium, and was always one of the most fun folks to work with in the early eras of Dynamic Forces. Chaos! was always about rebellion and bringing electrifying art and ideas to the page. Bringing this boundary-pushing art back to print has been a major goal. Most importantly, this is something fans have wanted to see, and this reunion feels so good!”

“Bringing the classic era stories to life in the Chaos! Library series is a dream come true,” Pulido said. “A year ago, this wasn’t even on the horizon, but now I’m immersed in over 6,000 pages of story and art I helped create, write, and publish. I gotta tell ya, this stuff is over-the-top, unapologetic, and ready to kick your ass! So, let’s get ready to descend into Where Darkness Dwells and ride the lightning together! I’m excited to be part of this ambitious series of crowdfunding campaigns that will showcase all of the ‘90s Chaos! Comics stories in new and exciting ways, sure to thrill both new and longtime fans.”

“The 90s were an explosive time in comics and Chaos! Comics were at the forefront. Brian and his collaborators created characters so deeply loved by his fan base that the memories and excitement of that time endure today,” Coffin President Francisca Pulido said. “What most people don’t realize is that Evil Ernie, Purgatory, Chasity, and the rest weren’t just comic book characters Brian created; they were like family to us, and we love them deeply. I’m so excited that Dynamite and Brian are teaming up to bring back the original Chaos! Comics in omnibus formats. Fans will be able to relive those amazing memories, and for me, I get to hold the children again.”
