Dominic Cooper Joins Agent Carter
Though it has long been rumored that the Howard Stark character will return in the Agent Carter television series, it wasn’t until September 30 that Marvel formally confirmed it. Dominic Cooper, who played the character in the first Captain America film, will be reprising his role as Tony Stark’s father.
Though Cooper’s role in Captain America: The First Avenger was relatively minor, his performance stood out as fans were able to see where Howard Stark’s son got his gift for snark.
While very few details exist on the Agent Carter show so far, what we do know is that Peggy Carter, portrayed by Hayley Atwell as she was in Captain America: The First Avenger, will be covertly working with Howard Stark on missions as she tries to balance her secret life with her Strategic Scientific Reserve work. The show is set to debut in January 2015, while the second season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is on break.
The series is primarily inspired by and based on the Agent Carter “One-Shot” short film that was included on the Iron Man 3 Blu-Ray release. This is not the first time a “One-Shot” ended up spawning a larger series; the Item 47 short film that was included with the Blu-Ray release of The Avengers helped to get the ball rolling on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Agent Carter, which will run on ABC, will consist of eight episodes and is sure to fill the void left by the absence of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
