Doctor Strange by Paul Smith Artist’s Edition Out in 2026
Skybound in partnership with Act 4 Publishing has announced the Doctor Strange by Paul Smith Artist’s Edition. Smith’s work on Doctor Strange helped to redefine the character, and is well regarded for his fine linework and atmospheric storytelling. The book will be in stores in August 2026.
“Paul Smith, at this point in his career, was doing some of his best Marvel art ever,” Act 4 Publishing’s Scott Dunbier said. “A good portion of this book features Paul inking his own stuff, and his delicate linework is truly a treat to behold, just gorgeous.”
The book is published in collaboration with Marvel Comics and spans 192 pages. It features complete stories from Doctor Strange #65, #69-70, and #72, 40 more pages from other issues, a selection of covers, and rarely seen art from other titles. Additionally, it has a 10-page Daredevil story from Marvel Fanfare #1, which was Smith’s first published work at Marvel.
“Paul Smith was truly hitting an amazing stride when he took on Doctor Strange,” Skybound Senior Editor Nachie Marsham said. “This Artist’s Edition is a stellar showcase of his linework and imagination.”
All of the art is scanned in color to show the ink gradients, blue pencils, and other aspects that reproduce the look of the original pages. The book is printed at the same size as the original art, measuring 12” x 17”, and is in hardcover format.
Act 4 Publishing and Skybound are partnering on a line of artist’s editions that includes Jim Aparo’s DC Classics Artist’s Edition out in late 2025, and George Pérez’s The New Teen Titans Artist’s Edition, The Amazing Spider-Man by Steve Ditko Artist’s Edition, Darwyn Cooke’s The Complete Spirit Connoisseur Edition, Wally Wood’s EC Stories Artist’s Edition-EXPANDED, and Mike Mignola’s Hellboy in Hell Book 2 Artist’s Edition are all scheduled for 2026.
Other upcoming collaborations are J. Scott Campbell’s Danger Girl Artist Edition, Dave Stevens’ Covers and Stories’ Connoisseur Edition, and Jason Pearson’s Body Bags Artist’s Edition.
