Doc Savage Featured on New Audiobook
Doc Savage: Flight Into Fear by Lester Dent and Will Murray has just been released as a brand new audiobook adaptation. The book, inspired by an original script by the series’ most important writer Lester Dent, place Doc Savage and his original crew right into the Cold War.
Will Murray’s adaptation of Dent original idea is a respectful, but wild ride through the world of Doc Savage. Few writers have ever been able to expand and build upon Dent’s original work like he can.
This isn’t the first time that Savage has taken action during the Cold War. The greatest Cold War challenge Doc ever faced took place in The Red Spider. That work, a risky novel for the time was originally surprised in 1948. It didn’t see the light of day until it was published in 1979.
That original story saw Doc sneak into Moscow so he could capture one of The Cold’ War’s most valuable secrets. This action brought him eternal notoriety in the USSR as the Government there made him a permanent enemy of the State.
Dent and Murray’s Flight into Fear is a follow-up to The Red Spider. With the Kremlin out to get him, Savage uses all his skills to move underground. Once there he assumes a new identity, Banner, a.k.a. The Face. His goal is to gain access to the Russian Arctic and help the West in their efforts towards a nuclear deterrence. The ultimate goal, establish the super-secret Project Moonwinx in Russia.
The CD set is graced by cover art from Joe DeVito. Over the last few years the artist’s work has become a highly anticipated part of a Doc Savage release. His work on this one captures Doc and the team in all their glory. As Doc seems to be channeling lighting itself, his team, including his sister Patricia, looks on in wonder. Behind them a mysterious figure brandishing a knife lurks in the darkness. The storm-filled sky serves as a magnificently regal background for the scene.
Read by noted actor Michael McConnohie the title is available for either download or as an eight-hour CD set from our friends at Radio Archives. The download and set are is available now.
