During the D23 Expo, Walt Disney Studios released the first teaser trailer for their next live-action remake, The Little Mermaid.

The teaser trailer takes viewers on a tour under the sea from the powerful waves to the ocean’s inhabitants, fields of coral, and ship wreckage that has sunk to its depths. It leads into the first footage of Halle Bailey (Grown-ish) as Ariel as she explores a sunken vessel and sings a line of “Part of Your World.”

The Little Mermaid is directed by Rob Marshall, who has plenty of experience in family-fantasy films like Mary Poppins Returns and Into the Woods. The movie also stars Jonah Hauer-King (World on Fire) as Prince Eric, Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, and Javier Bardem as King Triton, and the voices of Daveed Diggs as Sebastian, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, and Awkwafina as Scuttle.

The movie will be released in May 2023.
