Del Toro’s Scary Stories Adaptation Announces Cast
The cast lineup as well as some plot details for the Guillermo del Toro-produced Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark has been revealed. The film, which adapts the books of the same name, will be directed by André Øvredal, who previously directed The Autopsy of Jane Doe.
The cast will include Michael Garza (Wayward Pines), Austin Abrans (The Americans), Gabriel Rush (Moonrise Kingdom), Austin Zajur (Kidding), and Natalie Ganzhorn (Make it Pop).
“We spent months searching for and assembling the perfect group of actors to help us realize the most terrifying adaptation that we could conceive,” Øvredal said in a press release.
The original books were written by Alvin Schwartz and illustrated by Stephen Gammell, and consisted of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (1981), More Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (1984), and Scary Stories 3: More Tales to Chill Your Bones (1991). The books drew from various regional folk tales and urban legends; the trilogy remains one of the most challenged series of books of the last three decades.
The project has been in the works at CBS films for several years now, and is expected to begin filming this week. There is no date set for its release.
