The long expected migration of Marvel series is happening. Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders, and The Punisher are moving from their original home at Netflix to Disney+. Agents of SHIELD, which ran for seven seasons on ABC, is also moving to Disney+.

The Defenders shows, which were originally branded as Netflix Originals left the streaming giant on February 28, 2022, when the rights reverted back to Disney. Those six series and Agents of SHIELD will start streaming on Disney+ on March 16, 2022.

Since some of these shows are more mature and violent than the other MCU series, Disney+ is releasing an update for parental controls. The new settings will allow parents to select content ratings restrictions for each viewer’s profile and add a PIN to lock profiles.

“Disney+ has served as the home for some of the most beloved brands in the industry, and the addition of these live-action shows brings more from the Marvel brand together, all in one place,” Michael Paull, President of Disney Streaming, said in a statement. “We have experienced great success with an expanded content offering on Disney+ across our global markets and are excited to continue that here in the U.S. as well by offering our consumers not only great content with the new Marvel additions, but also a set of features that help ensure a viewing experience most suitable for them and their family.”

Moving theses series to Disney+ opens the door for the former ABC and Netflix characters to join the MCU. When the Defenders shows were on Netflix, a contract was in place that prevented those characters from appearing in non-Netflix shows or films for a period of two years after each was cancelled. All six shows ended between 2018 and 2019, making them fair game for crossovers into the MCU.

After these seven series are added to Disney+, the streaming service will premiere new MCU series Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, and Secret Invasion in 2022.
